Join The Obama Art Movement!

For many of us, 2008 is the toughest year of our lives. Some of our friends and loved ones are art war and wondering why. Jobs are being lost left and right. Bills are getting tough to pay with gas at almost $4 a gallon and rising. Our homes have lost their value. Much of the world looks down upon our country … oh man, we can go on and on. This is a scary time both in business and personal lives and much of it is related to politics. Is it wise for a business to get involved? Most probably not. However, Überbot isn’t just a place to buy and sell goods. It is a part of the community and culture of our town and these things are greatly effected by the political landscape. With so much at stake, this year is truly the most important year on so many levels. We need our economy back. We need to rebuild a sense of self and our standing in the world. To us, there has never been a clearer choice.
The message of Hope that follows Barack Obama has expressed itself in the streets with the most amazing art movement. Überbot would like to continue this movement with your help! We are asking artists to send us their Obama artwork. We will pick the most impressive work and make sure it gets out into the world so that all of our words and feelings are expressed. Be active!

I just read your email regarding Barack Obama and your support/call for support, both politically and monetarily, for his presidential campaign. It made me a little queasy.
It’s disappointing that Überbot is responsible for the first (and hopefully only) election propaganda email that I have ever received.
Although Überbot may have effectively alienated a portion of their customers, this is technically not a political blog
so I won’t counter your political statements with my own beliefs or researched facts.
In real life “hope” is not a proper noun.
All Always do your own research and “hope

Oops - sorry for the double post!

No worries Mary. We respect opinions and beliefs at Uberbot. We’re not here to try and prove or disprove anything to anyone. The choice in this election is for our customers to decide on their own.
Our post, and more specifically, our call for Obama art is simply about a very real and very unique art movement. Our store is about art and culture so such a thing can’t be ignored. If the opposition had an equally strong art movement, we would certainly consider the merits of widening the promotion. However, this is a highly unlikely scenario. On the political side, it will boil down to votes. For Uberbot and the talented customers we have, it is all about the art. This is a great opportunity for new artists to get their work seen and their names out there. In the end, that is the most important thing to us.
Thank you for the comments. Much love to you.

I also got that newsletter but I don’t know if it could be thought of as “election propaganda”. There was no real political message, just a call for artists to join a growing and popular art movement. Hell - almost all of the text in the newsletter deals with entry rules.
Thanks to Uberbot for keeping art movements alive in this town.

I happen to love Obama… so I think this is a neat idea, I can’t wait to see what kind of art comes from this! I don’t think Uberbot is alienating anyone, they’re not telling you that you have to vote for Obama or that you even have to be involved in this event. Just like Uberbot’s other events, they appeal to a niche crowd… you participate in the ones you think you’ll enjoy, and skip the ones you don’t.
